HISTORICAL CHRONICLE • 1957 TO PRESENT

Our Story

Seven decades of vision. Three generations of ambition. One world of trade.

From our roots in Anatolia to a global network, Ferex Group carries a pioneering legacy across borders and into the future.

Our heritage spans seven decades of industrial enterprise—from iron ore mining in Anatolia and the early supply of Türkiye’s major steel mills to international trade in physical commodities and selected industrial products. Today, that legacy continues through a global commercial network spanning three strategic hubs.

INDEPENDENT GLOBAL TRADING COMPANY

Ferex Group is an independent global trading company focused on executing cross-border trade flows between industrial producers, consumers, and verified supply chain participants.

The Group operates through a highly specialized international trade structure built around three strategically positioned commercial and operational hubs in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Türkiye. Through this integrated three-nation structure, the Group actively executes global trade flows, develops and manages industrial relationships, integrates logistics and supply-chain operations, structures financial connectivity, and delivers international trade transactions across multiple jurisdictions.

Industrial Mining Heritage

The foundations of the Group originate from a multi-generational industrial and mining background deeply connected with Türkiye’s iron ore and industrial minerals sector, particularly within the Divriği, Sivas region, one of the country’s most significant iron ore basins. Since the early industrialization period of the 1950s, the founding family and associated industrial operators have been actively involved in mining operations, extraction activities, logistics operations, and international raw material trade.

European Commercial Expansion

During the 1950s and 1960s, Necati Akın Madencilik (Mining Enterprises), under the leadership of the founding generation, expanded its commercial activities into key European industrial markets, particularly Germany and Italy. The company developed long-term iron ore export relationships with major European industrial groups and conducted the import of steel and processed metal products into Türkiye, supporting the country's industrial development and strengthening commercial ties between Europe and Türkiye.

Steel Industry Integration

Within the same industrial development cycle, the Group’s historical mining operations contributed to the early supply chain development of Türkiye’s foundational steel industry by supplying iron ore feedstock to major domestic steel facilities. Iron ore originating from affiliated production operations was utilized during the industrial ramp-up phases of several large-scale Turkish steel plants, supporting the growth and industrialization of the country’s steel production ecosystem.

Global Governance & Multi-Generational Growth

The second and third generations continued expanding international trade relationships across Europe, Asia, and emerging industrial markets, strengthening long-term supplier relationships and global commodity trading experience through cooperation with major international industrial consumers and multinational counterparties.

During the expansion of these international commercial projects and industrial relationships, the corporate structure was additionally strengthened by experienced professional management, strategic partners, and highly specialized commercial and legal advisors with deep expertise in corporate governance, international trade structuring, regulatory compliance, and cross-border commercial operations. This institutional foundation contributed significantly to the development of the Group’s governance framework, contractual architecture, legal infrastructure, regulatory alignment, and operational compliance standards across multiple jurisdictions.

Strategic Divestment

Over time, these long-standing partnerships, accumulated expertise, and shared international commercial vision ultimately led to the establishment of Ferex Group in its present institutional structure. The combined strategic, legal, financial, and commercial capabilities developed through Ferrocom Madencilik San. Tic. A.Ş. (mining company), became an integral component of the Group’s international positioning and multi-jurisdictional trading capabilities.

As part of a strategic industrial restructuring process, Ferrocom Madencilik San. Tic. A.Ş. (mining company), was fully divested in 2013 through the transfer of 100% of its share capital to Demir Export, a leading Turkish mining company within Koç Holding. The transaction represented the culmination of a long-standing commercial relationship and marked the successful monetisation of a multi-generational family mining business.

Throughout this period, the organization maintained continuous professional relationships with leading Turkish industrial groups, large-scale corporations, and holding companies operating across the mining, steel, logistics, manufacturing, and industrial raw materials sectors.

International Commercial and Investment Activities

Together with strategic commercial partners and advisors, the organization participated in and executed numerous cross-border projects, industrial collaborations, international commercial structuring initiatives, and globally connected ventures that contributed to its long-term institutional development and operational expansion.

Between 2013 and 2020, following the divestment of the mining operations, the family’s international commercial and investment activities were conducted through Ferrocom Foreign Trade and Metal Industry Investment Inc., which pursued selected entrepreneurial and technology-oriented initiatives across Europe. These included projects related to patented medical technologies, healthcare logistics systems, and specialized industrial transport solutions integrated into hospital infrastructure developments within Türkiye and neighboring regions. This period represented a measured diversification strategy following the exit from direct mining ownership while maintaining an international business and investment focus.

Subsequently, in line with the organization’s long-term commercial strategy and core industrial expertise, all activities related to the medical device and healthcare systems sector were discontinued, with full operational focus returning to international commodity trade, industrial raw material trading, and cross-border supply chain management.
